Tulip Season
Bulb flowers bloom in the field from the end of March until the second week of May. It goes without saying that the exact period depends on the weather. Generally speaking, the best time is from the second week of April and therefore the busiest season.

At the end of March the crocus season starts. The daffodils and early and small tulips are next, from the beginning of April. From mid-April the daffodils and the hyacinths bloom. Finally, from mid April until the first week in May the tulips show off their glorious colours. No matter where you look, the fields will be different and no doubt gorgeously colourful.

Tulip Fields
The weather in Holland is suited for tulip growing, with cool springs just as they begin to bloom. The soil in the polders (reclaimed land below sea level) is always being drained, making it perfect for tulip bulbs, as they like well-drained but moist sandy soils.

Oldest Tulip Fields – South from Amsterdam
A well-known bulb-growing area is the Bollenstreek near Haarlem and Leiden, home of the world-famous Keukenhof gardens. Wealthy merchants from Haarlem and Amsterdam introduced the cultivation of flower bulbs on a small scale basis in the sandy soil located close to the dunes in the 16th century.
• Tulip Festival: Flower Parade 3rd Saturday of April.

Largest Tulip Fields – North East from Amsterdam
Most of the tulip farms in Holland are located in the Noordoostpolder (Northeast polder), in the province of Flevoland, and in the area known as the Kop van Noord-Holland. The Kop even boasts the largest continuous bulb-growing area in Holland.
